We are Open!

We are Open!

Hello to our Little Squaw Friends and Family,

Celebrate!! USFS 520 has been opened! The evacuation order was lifted this morning. It’s so wonderful to see blue skies and feel cool mountain air after the rain showers that we have been receiving every day.

On Wednesday, July 10, Kathy, Teri and Rocky visited Little Squaw with USFS District Ranger, Divide RD, Tom Malecek and local Forest Service, Ranger Jody Fairchild. We walked throughout the resort and were given the “thumbs up” for Rocky to come back and start the rehabilitation which includes replacing a few short sections of water line (which he completed yesterday) and identifying and cutting trees deemed hazardous or charred.

A BAER Study has been initiated for Little Squaw Creek Drainage. This is an “evaluate and fix” initiative. We feel thankful that the Forest Service has chosen Little Squaw Creek for this study. Several Hot Shot Crews from Craig, CO and Aurora, CO and other surrounding states have been working in Little Squaw for the past several days cutting and removing hazardous trees. This is the job Rocky was planning to do. We are grateful that the Hot Shot Crews are doing this for us. We are thankful and owe “A PAT ON THE BACK” to the Federal Government for the help and effort all of the crews are doing all over the area! They even checked each cabin once the electricity was restored. They showed us a video that they took of a mother and baby moose in camp. We later saw her in River Hill Campground which will probably remain closed for the season.

Rocky and Pat moved back to Little Squaw yesterday. We look forward to greeting our guests on July 20 which will be our first week open since being evacuated on June 21.

We have received so many thoughtful messages and words of gratitude from our guests. Thank you!!! These have been heartwarming and have lifted our spirits as we move forward and keep positive thoughts.

With gratitude,

Kathy & Teri, Rocky & Pat
